The average session fee in Austin, TX is approximately $125-$175. Because I am not yet fully licensed & am under the supervision of a qualified clinician (Loren Riedel, LPC-S #80100), I charge less per session while I acquire my 3,000 associate hours. This is a process every professional counselor must undergo in the state of Texas, even after completing a Masters Program, passing licensing exams, & acquiring a license.

Yes, a legal guardian must be involved in the initial stage of signing consent forms and be in-person for the beginning of the first session. This initial session will be used as a way for the legal adult(s), clients, & counselor to discuss session structure, goals for therapy, & build a relationship.

While legally a guardian has a right to know anything pertaining to the health/safety of their child during therapy, I recommend the parent be present for sessions only when requested by the child client or therapist. This provides the opportunity for your child to feel they can share, process, & work through goals without being observed by their guardian. Often children express differently when observed by family/friends and this can sometimes be detrimental to the therapeutic process. I am happy to provide research on this topic upon request!
